ABOUT

Born in Atlanta Georgia in 1973,I devoted that last fifteen years of my life to the pursuit of music. As composer, singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and conductor, I discovered an unexpected talent for music while attending Washington & Lee Universityand realized I had found what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I came to Athens to get a Masters in Music composition at the University of Georgia. There I wrote a song cycle based on the poems of Anne Sexton for soprano Ellen Ritchey. The piece, Music Swims Back to Me, explores the possibility of holding two very different things - mental illness and health - in a balanced tension. Is there a way to reconcile being fully one and then fully the other? Is there a thread holding them both together?

After graduate school, I gave the pop thing a shot, recording with the band I called Riveter, after Rosie the Riveter, because I though I could do it. We recorded a great album with John Keane called Like Being Found. I wrote all the songs on the album and had one fabulous group of players to turn them into something way beyond singer/songwriter fare.

I then met an incredible musician, Neal Fountain. We made Heart of a Woman, a moody, raw, and beautiful exploration of some of my songs and some hymns as well. The players, again, brought something exquisite to the songs. I love this record.

We then made a record of hymns and spirituals with a group called The Holy Rollin' Empire. A real honest take on some music I really love. Excellent band.

In 2002, I got the opportunity to be the Worship Leader for Athens First United Methodist Church's contemporary service, then called Sundays @ The Morton. During that experience, I wrote several religious songs, many written for congregational singing. Unfortunately, I've never been able to make a record of those songs. In the summer of 2008, I sat down with a guitar and engineer extrodinaire, Tom Lewis, and put 30 of those songs down as very basic guitar/voice demos. They are on the Download Music page.

At the end of 2009, the contemporary service was no more.

So here I am again, ready for the next phase, ready for a new season.

I hope you enjoy the music available on this website. I sure enjoyed making it.

About my personal life ... I am married to the most wonderful man, Chris Caldwell. We had my second favorite man, Andrew Powell Caldwell, on August 23, 2009. Needless to say, my creative energy has been directed his way in the past year. What a fantastic little fella!
